# Striped > Striped is a golf swing trainer for iPhone that measures swing tempo, swing > plane, head stillness, hip rotation and swing sequencing using only the Apple > devices a golfer already owns. There is no club sensor, no launch monitor, no > camera rig and no extra hardware to buy, charge or clip on — the phone goes in > your pocket and the app does the rest. Striped is built and operated by Mongo Technologies LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. It is an iOS application with an Apple Watch companion. ## What makes Striped different Almost every swing analyser on the market asks you to buy something: a sensor that clips to the club, a launch monitor, a tripod. Striped asks for nothing you do not already carry to the course. The measurement comes from the inertial sensors in an iPhone, a pair of motion-capable AirPods and, optionally, an Apple Watch. It is also, on our own review of the field, the only app that both **paces** your tempo and **measures** it hands-free. Metronome apps cue a rhythm but never tell you what you actually swung. Sensor products measure a swing but need hardware. Striped closes the loop: it cues the tempo in your ear, then tells you out loud what you really did, on the same swing, with nothing attached to your club. ## What Striped measures - **Tempo** — the ratio of backswing to downswing, timed from the takeaway, the top of the backswing and impact, plus how consistently you hold that ratio across a session. Tour players cluster near 3:1; Striped tells you where you actually are. - **Swing plane** — the plane your backswing establishes, and how far your hands stray off it coming down, reported in centimetres rather than adjectives. - **Head drift** — how far your head sways and rises through the strike, with an audio cue the moment it moves. Both are invisible to you while swinging. - **Hip rotation** — how far the pelvis has turned at the top and how open it is at impact, phase by phase through the downswing. - **Sequence** — wrist against hips: whether the lower body is leading the hands down or trailing them. The order things happen in, not just how fast. ## How it works - **iPhone**, in your front pocket, sampling motion at ~100 Hz. Riding the pelvis it sees the turn away from the ball and back through it, which yields the takeaway, the top and impact — the three timestamps a tempo ratio is made of. - **AirPods**, ~50 Hz. Motion-capable AirPods report head orientation, giving head stillness and an immediate cue when the head drifts. - **Apple Watch**, optional, high-rate wrist motion. The watch's accelerometer catches the shock of impact itself rather than inferring it, tightening every number the app reports. Each metric has a preferred source and degrades gracefully: with fewer devices Striped measures less precisely and says so, rather than guessing. ## Accuracy and validation Striped's swing detection and event timing have been validated against frame-synchronised slow-motion video of real range sessions with real ball strikes — not simulated swings. Detection, top-of-backswing timing and impact timing were each measured against video ground truth and reported with their error bars rather than asserted. Where a metric has not cleared that bar, it is not shipped as a coaching claim. ## Requirements - iPhone running iOS 17 or later - Motion-capable AirPods for the head channel: AirPods Pro (all generations), AirPods 3rd generation or later, AirPods Max, or Beats Fit Pro. AirPods 1st and 2nd generation do not expose motion data. - Apple Watch with watchOS 10 or later, optional, for the wrist channel - No other hardware of any kind ## Privacy Striped has no accounts, no sign-up and no password, and asks for no personal details. Sessions are stored on your own device by default. The app contains no advertising, no third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDK, no location access and no tracking identifiers, and nothing is sold to anyone. Its Apple Watch companion requests permission to write a workout to Health, with an empty read set — it cannot see your health records and does not ask to. ## Availability Striped is an iPhone application from Mongo Technologies LLC. It is not yet released on the App Store; the website is the current point of contact. ## Links - [Home](https://stripedgolfapp.com/): what Striped is, what it measures, and a 3D replay of a tour-tempo swing driven by the app's own swing model - [Privacy Policy](https://stripedgolfapp.com/privacy): full detail on what is collected, what is not, and how session data is handled - Support and press enquiries: support@stripedgolfapp.com
